The Kansas City Chiefs were hoping to have All-Pro starting left guard Joe Thuney back for the Super Bowl LVIII showdown with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night after he missed the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, but it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that it’s “a long shot” that Joe Thuney will be able to play in the Super Bowl after suffering a pectoral injury.
“Chiefs’ HC Andy Reid called it a “long shot” for Pro Bowl left guard Joe Thuney to be able to play in Super Bowl LVIII vs. the 49ers,” Schefter wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Thuney suffered a pectoral injury in the Divisional Round showdown with the Buffalo Bills that kept him out of last week’s AFC title game against the Ravens.
This is a pretty significant blow to the Chiefs as Thuney is the team’s best and most dominant offensive lineman and a key part of their offense.
We’ll have to see how the Chiefs perform without him against a dominant Niners defense.
