With Mike Tomlin heading into the last year of his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, there has been a lot of speculation about his future with the team which was fueled by Tomlin’s refusing to talk about it after the team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills this week. But it sounds like the players want him back.
Following Monday’s loss to Buffalo, Pittsburgh Steelers superstar defensive tackle Cameron Heyward made it very clear that he and his teammates want Mike Tomlin to remain the head coach of the team, saying “this group would not function” without him leading the way.
“Every player wouldn’t be anything without Mike T,” Heyward said according to the Pittsburgh Steelers team website. “This group would not function to even get to a playoff berth without Mike T. He keeps us accountable from top to bottom and I don’t want to play for any other coach.”
Obviously, Tomlin has been successful during his time with Pittsburgh and has never even had a losing season with the team, but his future is in question after the team has not won a playoff game since 2016, losing five consecutive games in the postseason under Tomlin.
We’ll certainly have to see what happens.
