Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam were performing at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee for 18,000 people but Vedder made sure to give a shout to one attendee in particular.

After all, it’s not every day that Aaron Rodgers makes his way to a concert.

Vedder went as far as to call Rodgers “royalty” which would make sense if Vedder was a Packers fan. He’s not. Hilariously enough, Vedder is a lifelong Bears fan which makes his compliments of Rodgers only slightly less blasphemous than telling a Bears fan that Mike Ditka is overrated:

Vedder also gave a shout-out to a special guest in the house — Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers — saying it was an honor to perform for “royalty.” The band played “Yield” track “Given to Fly” in his honor, and played Vedder’s “Setting Forth” from the Sean Penn film “Into the Wild” at Rodgers’ request.

To make matters worse (or better if you love the idea of a Bears fan sucking up to their rival’s quarterback), Vedder got to meet Rodgers backstage and asked him about trading Rodgers to the Bears for Jay Cutler.

Vedder, a Chicago Bears loyalist (he was born in Evanston), also told the audience he asked Rodgers backstage if he’d be interested in a trade with Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. “I’ve never seen a grown man laugh so hard in my life,” Vedder said.

C’mon Eddie. You should at least pretend that your quarterback is as good as your arch-rival’s. Sucking up to him won’t make the Bears defense any better.
