When Baker Mayfield agreed to a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it was full of performance incentives that would pay Mayfield extra money for meeting various benchmarks. The contract could be viewed as Mayfield betting on himself, and it’s certainly paid off.
As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, Baker Mayfield has earned $2.85 million in incentives this season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the way that he has performed with the team and for leading the team to the playoffs and to a postseason victory.
“To date, he has made $2 million by taking at least 85 percent of the regular-season snaps on offense, along with the Bucs making the playoffs. He also earned $300,000 by finishing in the top 10 in the NFL in passing yards (he was ninth with 4,044) and in the top 10 in passing touchdowns (seventh, with 28). Last night, he made another $250,000 with the wild-card playoff win,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.
Mayfield can even make $750,000 more as he can earn $250,000 for every playoff win in which he plays 75 percent of the snaps.
It’s clear that Mayfield’s confidence in himself and his ability to lead the team to success has paid off for him this season.
