The NFL is currently investigating the Atlanta Falcons for a possible tampering allegation regarding their pursuit of free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins, who ultimately signed with the team this offseason. But the Falcons seem to believe they’re innocent in the matter.
During an interview at the NFL’s annual league meetings this week, Atlanta Falcons team owner Arthur Blank addressed the tampering allegations and made it clear that the team does not believe there was any wrongdoing on their part when it came to their pursuit of Kirk Cousins.
“The tampering deal, we obviously don’t believe we tampered, and we shared all the information with the league,” Blank said Monday according to ESPN. “And they’ll review the process and the facts and they are in the middle of doing that, and whatever the result is, we’ll deal with it.”
During his introductory press conference, Cousins outright said that he had direct contact with the head athletic trainer the day before the official start of free agency, which is a clear violation of the league’s policy.
We’ll have to see what the league ultimately determines in its investigation. If the Falcons are found to have tampered, they could be penalized with forfeited draft picks or a fine.
