Even though the Atlanta Falcons selected Washington Huskies star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft on Thursday night, it sounds like the team is still planning to move forward with Kirk Cousins as its starting quarterback.
During an interview this week, new Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris made it clear that the team had decided Kirk Cousins will be its starting quarterback and he will not have to worry about Michael Penix Jr. overtaking him.
“We came up with a decision, this is what we plan to do,” Morris said according to Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com. “And Kirk does not have to look over his shoulder every time he throws a bad pass. Like, that is not the case. So I know I’m going to have to tell you guys once or twice that that is not the case. Like, we are here to go win, and we are here to go win it all. We are here to win as much as we can win.”
Obviously, this is a significant decision from the Atlanta Falcons, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
Yeah, right.

We all know that’s a lie. He comes out the gate and doesn’t play well. fans will Turn on him. Come on now. I feel like it’s impossible to keep the locker room on one side. looks like the Falcons are not on the same page.

Check is already cashed. It’s going to be fun to watch this gong show. The first time he struggles, (and he will), fans will be calling for Penix (and they should).

I don’t think Kirk Cousins and his $100M guaranteed was ever going to look over his shoulder for Michael Penix lol https://t.co/8RgRFM8qMO

For now. I see this as Cousins for two years then the Michael Penix Jr show in his third year in the league.
I will say this, Cousins better not get hurt or miss time, because if Penix Jr gets his shot & lights it up. That’s going to turn this into an even more messy situation https://t.co/y2msKO20Bh

Understand, but if the team struggles, the noise will get louder. A pro would pay no attention to it. https://t.co/4CMmUVN57m

We’ll have to see how this whole situation plays out.
