Throughout the 2023 NFL season and the Kansas City Chiefs’ deep postseason run, longtime head coach Andy Reid was met with several rumors about his potential retirement after the season. But not only has Reid decided not to retire, but he just signed on for five more years with the team.
According to a report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Andy Reid has signed a new contract with the team that makes him the highest-paid coach in the league and locks him up until the 2029 season.
“#Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt told Andy Reid he wanted to make him the NFL’s highest-paid coach, and now he is, on a deal that runs through 2029, per sources,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
The new contract rewards the duo not only for three Super Bowl wins, but how the organization has transformed since 2013.
Despite annual questions about whether he’ll retire, Andy Reid is going strong and now locked up through 2029, when he’ll be 71. https://t.co/DKP8a2FeCL

It’s obviously pretty insane news that Reid followed up retirement questions with a five-year contract extension, and the NFL World had a lot to say about it on social media.
Andy Reid is going to die of a heart attack if he sees Kadarius Toney try to catch a football at age 70 https://t.co/Z3TEs78fhN

Why does no one talk to him about his obvious weight issues? He’s not getting to 71 if he keeps this up.

It’s pretty clear that Reid is not ready to call it quits yet.
