After the final whistle of the Seattle Seahawks’ 43-8 thrashing of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, rabid Seahawks fans took to Seattle streets to celebrate the victory. One area hard hit by post game revelers was Greek Row near the University of Washington campus, where students burned couches on the median that runs along the main drag of fraternity and sorority houses.
Amidst the post game celebrations, two Husky football players, Cyler Miles and Damore’ea Stringfellow, have been identified as perpetrators in two assaults near campus. Miles, a Colorado native and the presumed starting quarterback next season, and Stringfellow, a true freshman wide receiver, have been accused of assaulting a man around 8:30 pm on Sunday:
The man said two suspects jumped out of a car and asked the man if he was a Seahawks fan. According to the police report, the man said “something like, ‘Yeah of course, are you Broncos fans?’ ”
The suspects then “came at” the man and “started punching (him) in the face,” according to the report. The man and a friend identified the two suspects by looking at the UW football roster online.
The reported assault was preceded by another incident near the bonfire, where one of the identified players attacked a female reveler:
At least one of the football players was identified as a suspect in an earlier assault near a post-Super Bowl bonfire on the corner of N.E. 47th Street and 19th Avenue N.E. In that incident, a female victim was knocked down and had her camera damaged by one of the suspects. Both of the suspects were described as wearing Broncos gear.
No arrests have been made, but both players have been suspended indefinitely, placing a chilling effect on what should have been a joyous week for Husky football, following the signing of top prospect Budda Baker out of Bellevue High School.
