It hasn’t been a great week in Chapel Hill. Rashad McCants is Sammy the Bull and now this. Their tight end commit — who turned down Florida State, Virginia Tech, and Louisville — was arrested for alleged felony larceny for swiping $53,000 in bling.
According to the Raleigh News and Observer, Edwards tried to skate off with “five watches and one pair of diamond stud earrings valued at $53,000”.
From the perspective of UNC Football coach Larry Fedora and to Edwards’ parents it’s just your typical good kid, maad city situation.
…a good kid who made a terrible mistake.
This is an extremely difficult time for our family… Avery has a bright future including plans to attend his dream school, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on a football scholarship in the fall. We are heartbroken that our son – a solid student and talented athlete – has made a mistake of this magnitude. He is deeply sorry for his actions, and he has returned the items to the owners and apologized. This is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, and we hope the matter can be resolved in a fair and reasonable way. Avery was released on unsecured bond and is at home.
