UCLA one-and-done star and probable NBA lottery pick, Shabazz Muhammad is in the news for reasons that have very little to do with him. His dad, Ronald Holmes was indicted Thursday on federal bank fraud and conspiracy charges, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The indictment states that Holmes and his partners obtained “mortgage loans by fraudulent means to buy houses,” from 2006 to 2009.
The U.S. attorney’s office is seeking to recover $2.5 million from Holmes. Shabazz, 20, played one year at UCLA before declaring for the NBA draft. UCLA recruited him while he played for Bishop Gorman High School. Rashad, 18, who also played for Bishop Gorman, will attend San Jose State on a basketball scholarship in the fall.
In 1999, Holmes plead guilty to using fraudulent back statements to get mortgages. He had to pay $78,000 out as restitution to the banks that he took money from. In addition, Shabazz Muhammad’s family was investigated by the NCAA for financial dealings before Shabazz even played a minute for the Bruins.
