In case you missed it, Drake held a concert in Toronto recently, and there was a potential future, high-profile NBA free agent candidate in attendance. Kevin Durant, who may be the marquee target of the 2016 free agent class, inspired the rapper to give a shout out to the Thunder small forward, and provide a taste of what an enthusiastic crowd in Toronto sounds like:
“Before we leave, I just want to show one of my brothers something. You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.”
Those comments, especially from a rapper, would typically be viewed as innocuous. However, Drake became the Raptors’ official “global ambassador” last fall, which makes him a team employee. Considering Durant is still under contract with the Thunder, the NBA considered Drake’s sales pitch a violation of its anti-tampering policy, and fined the organization $25,000.
