The Los Angeles Lakers are currently one of the worst teams in basketball with a W-L record of 12-27 but that hasn’t put much of a dent in the team’s following.
In a survey conducted by Twitter where the company looked at which NBA team is followed the most in each geographic region, it is abundantly clear that the Lakers still enjoy an incredible amount of popularity across the country.
Other interesting takeaways:
New Mexico’s support for the Lakers is strong.
Without a team of their own to support, Washington state has mostly gone to supporting the Lakers. Stevens County, WA supports the Knicks and Jefferson County, WA is Nuggets country. Unsurprisingly, the Thunder are not particularly well-liked in Washington state.
The Raptors do indeed rule the North.
Alaska pretty much mirrors national coverage of the NBA with the Lakers, Bulls, Heat and Thunder enjoying the most popularity in the state.
Despite being the better team in their own county for years now, the Clippers are still very much in the shadow of the Lakers in Los Angeles County, where 50.32% of Twitter users follow the Lakers as compared to the Clippers’ 6.79%.
The Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics may not enjoy widespread popularity but they sure do enjoy concentrated following within their respective home states.
