Kyrie Irving is apologizing to scientists everywhere.
The Boston Celtics point guard trolled the Internet when he didn’t dismiss the possibility of the earth being flat. Those comments were memed across the Internet like few other NBA stories. Now, Kyrie is setting the record straight.
Irving spoke at Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit, where the All-Star admitted conspiracies theory videos on YouTube led him to the flat earth stuff.

“At the time, I was huge into conspiracies. Everybody’s been there, like, ‘Yo, what’s going on with our world?” he joked. “You click a YouTube link and it’s like how deep does the rabbit hole go? You start telling all your friends, ‘Did you see that? Watch this video.’
Irving apologized to all the science teachers out there who had curious students ask about the earth being flat.
“I’m sorry about all that,” Irving said, “to all the science teachers coming up to me like, ‘You know I’ve got to re-teach my whole curriculum?!’ I’m sorry. I apologize. I apologize.”
Irving appears to be quite a smart, genuine guy. So, when the flat earth stuff initially dominated headlines, it was confusing for fans and media alike. He admitted he just got stuck down a YouTube rabbit hole, which happens to the best of us.
Clearly, Irving knows his platform is too big to peddle conspiracy theories. I’m glad he sees the world in a different, rounder perspective.
