Klay Thompson is going to retire a Warrior, at least according to his dad Mychal.
Mychal Thompson, who spent more than a decade in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, Spurs and Lakers, spoke with the San Francisco Chronicle, where he boasted his All-Star son will be in Golden State for the long haul.
“Oh yeah, you can mark it down,” Mychal Thompson said at a party to kick off the Thompson Family Foundation’s first charity golf tourney. “Klay’s going to retire in the Warriors’ uniform. He’s going to play at Chase Center (the Warriors’ new arena, opening in 2019), and he’s not going to be at Chase Center as a visiting player, he’s going to be a Warrior for the next seven or eight years.”
It might seem like an outrageous claim considering the unpredictability of the NBA and the fact Thompson is 28-years-old, but if there’s any team who is likely to keep their core locked in for another decade, it’s the Warriors. They’re a dynasty and Thompson’s a huge part of it, so why wouldn’t they opt to keep him around for the foreseeable future?
Thompson deserves to be a Warrior until the day he doesn’t want to be.
