Kenneth Faried was arrested on late Sunday night after police found more than 2 ounces of weed on the Brooklyn Nets center during a traffic stop.
Faried was booked after he was pulled over in Bridgehampton, New York at a sobriety checkpoint. The 28-year-old, who was dealt from the Denver Nuggets to the Nets in a cap dump this offseason, was charged with a misdemeanor 4th-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.
The Nets released a statement to TMZ Sports, saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Kenneth Faried and are in the process of gathering more information at this time.”
Honestly, Faried should know better to smoke weed and drive. Marijuana is mostly harmless and shouldn’t be considered illegal, which is why it’s decriminalized in so many places (including Faried’s former Colorado stomping grounds). But, in Brooklyn, it’s still not legal to possess that much.
Per TMZ, Faried faces up to a year in prison if convicted. I highly doubt he’ll see any prison time since it’s just a misdemeanor, but it should be a lesson to Faried to be smarter. It’s not great he scored his first arrest before scoring his first basket with the Nets.
