New Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has been a hot topic as of late in the sports world, with many speculating how his looming coaching career in Los Angeles will go. But on Tuesday, Redick was being talked about for an entirely different reason.
Redick of course first rose to fame throughout his collegiate playing career at Duke, where he broke the program record for all-time points.
This sparked his NBA career and ultimately put the wheels in motion for everything he has accomplished in sports and sports media to date.
However, on Tuesday, Duke alumni Halleemah Nash took to social media to offer her recollection of Redick during his playing days at Duke, accusing him of calling her a racial slur during his time at the program.
“I’ve only been called the N-word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team,” wrote Nash on X. “And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.”

TMZ reached out to Redick’s camp for comment on this allegation, who vehemently denied Nash’s claims on Redick’s behalf.
“No, it never happened,” a spokesperson told TMZ on his client’s behalf.
It goes without saying that this is a serious allegation from Nash. Naturally, many took to social media to offer their reaction to this claim from Nash.
I don’t know any of you. I don’t know JJ Reddick either. But I know this woman personally. She has unimpeachable character and integrity. I 💯believe her. https://t.co/CxscR2cGZv

Anybody can say anything on social media these days, and it gains traction as long as it pushes an agenda. This may have happened, but what's the point of speaking on it now? You didn't tweet this when he became an NBA player or a sports analyst, sheesh. https://t.co/VHvST8pygo

What a crazy world we live in. One can only hope that the curent Lakers coach has learned several life lessons since he played at Duke. https://t.co/pxH1bLPPes
