Gordon Hayward had himself a highlight reel night in Salt Lake City Wednesday night, starting with this chase down block on LeBron James, followed by a dunk on the other end.
With the Jazz leading 96-90 late in the fourth quarter, that play should have stood alone as the top highlight of the game. Unfortunately, the Jazz squandered the lead thanks to a 24-second violation and six quick points from LeBron James on a ridiculous corner three and three clutch free throws after being fouled beyond the three-point line. With the game tied at 100 apiece and with 3.4 seconds left on the clock, the Jazz had time for one play. Hayward managed (quite easily) to get free and nail a step-back 20 footer for the win.
If all this looks familiar, you’re not crazy. The last time LeBron played in Utah as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was January 15th, 2010, when recent D-League call-up Sundiata Gaines hit a game-winning three at the buzzer. Speaking of the Cavs, they’re now off to a 1-3 start, with two of those losses coming against teams (Utah, New York) they were expected to beat handily.
