13-year-old Anthony Cupp was robbed of his Nike KD 7s right before Thanksgiving in his hometown of Warren, Michigan. Thankfully, Kevin Durant and the Detroit Pistons had the young man’s back.
After all, it’s not like Anthony was casually given his pair of KD 7s. The Cupp family’s finances are tight. Anthony had strenuously saved up enough money to buy a pair of Nike KD 7s through neighborhood yard work.
Money is tight in Cupp’s family. His mother – Janiesa Cupp – is still undergoing therapy after surgery to remove a tumor, which sucks up most of the finances. So Cupp mowed some lawns in his neighborhood to save up enough money to buy the signature sneakers of his favorite professional athlete.
Unfortunately, in late November, Cupp had to walk home from school one day and some asshole robbed Anthony of his hard-earned kicks.
But as he was walking home from school on a snowy late November day in Warren, Michigan – a suberb just north of downtown Detroit – Cupp was jumped by an older kid and his shoes were taken.
Thankfully, the Detroit Pistons learned of Anthony’s story and they took the time to contact Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The parties put together a fantastic plan for Anthony.
On Sunday, the Thunder visited Detroit and the Pistons invited Anthony to the game to be a ball-boy. In addition, the Thunder arranged it so that Kevin Durant personally met Anthony two hours before the game. As for KD, he didn’t just meet Anthony. Durant came bearing gifts; one pair of KD 7s signed by Durant himself and one pair of KD 7s in Anthony’s size.
Nike can claim “KD is not nice” but all evidence here points towards the contrary.
