This week, the Cavaliers made the surprise decision to fire head coach Tyronn Lue after a 0-6 start. The decision was somewhat shocking since Lue had led the Cavs to three straight NBA Finals (and one Championship) in three years. Despite the axeing, Lue’s got supporters in NBA circles.
TMZ caught up with Doc and Austin Rivers. Doc, the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, said Lue, his former assistant in L.A., would be fine going forward and offered support his way. Austin, who’s never played under Lue, called the former Lakers guard “a good coach,” and that “whoever gets him will be lucky.”
It’s easy to say Lue’s success was just a product of coaching LeBron James, the games best player. However, with three straight NBA Finals appearances, Lue deserves a second shot elsewhere to solidify his status as a top coach in the NBA. The Rivers’ both know he’ll be just fine. They’ll face a Lue-coached team again in the NBA sometime soon.
