Suddenly, that $25,000 that Phil Jackson got fined with for tampering seems like money well spent.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Knicks have signed Derek Fisher to be their next head coach:
Derek Fisher is finalizing an agreement on a 5-year, $25 million deal to become the Knicks coach, league sources tell Yahoo.

At face value, it’s the same deal that Steve Kerr got from the Golden State Warriors.
Fisher has a long history with Phil Jackson as the two of them managed to win five NBA championships together as members of the Los Angeles Lakers organization.
Although Fisher has always displayed leadership on the court (he was even the president of the NBA Players Association), it remains to be seen just what coaching prowess the point guard will bring to the table. Before the hire, Phil Jackson seemed very optimistic that Fisher would be up to the task, noting that he was a “person that’s on my list of guys that could be very good candidates for this job.”
It’s a $25 million bet but Fisher won’t be dealing with mighty high expectations and it will be hard for Derek to be less inspiring than Mike Woodson and his perfect goatee.
Apparently Fisher a pretty decent author as well..
