Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul has been elected president of the recently embattled NBA Players Association. Paul was chosen over the assumed favorite, Roger Mason, Jr., mainly due to Mason’s current free agent status (Mason played on the Hornets this past season) — Mason was elected first vice president, instead.
Paul takes over a union that has experienced some shakeups recently, namely the sudden firing of executive director Billy Hunter. He now joins a storied fraternity of past NBAPA presidents, including Hall of Famers Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, Bob Lanier, Alex English and Isiah Thomas, and is the first high profile leader since Patrick Ewing stepped down in July 2001.
