Today’s episode of “Where Are They Now” stars Bill Walker, the former high school phenom whose professional career was derailed by multiple knee injuries suffered both in college and just days before the 2008 NBA Draft. The surefire first rounder tumbled to the bottom of the draft, going #47 overall to the Washington Wizards, who immediately shipped him off to Boston. As you can probably imagine, history hasn’t been kind to the 47th pick. Since the NBA shortened the draft to two rounds in 1989, the only players of note drafted in that position were Paul Millsap and Mo Williams.
Walker was the rare breed that managed to carve out a career longer than one season, playing four total with Boston and New York. However, he’s spent the last three years out of the NBA, playing in the D-League, Venezuela and the Philippines. He latched onto the Sioux Falls Skyforce in October, and signed a 10-day contract with the Miami Heat on February 21st.
In his first NBA action since April 18th, 2012 (the Knicks released him before the playoffs that season), Walker put up 11 points in the first half, two of which came on this ferocious dunk.
