Former United States President Barack Obama has always been a big sports fan, even throughout his presidency. So when the Boston Celtics made history by winning their 18th NBA Championship with a victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night, he was quick to offer his congratulations on social media.
Shortly after the buzzer sounded and Boston was officially named this year’s NBA champion, Barack Obama took to social media to send a message of congratulations to the team.
“Congrats to the new champs, the Boston Celtics! 18 titles is no easy feat – well deserved,” Obama said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obama has been very open about his sports fandom even going back to his time in the office. While he primarily supports Chicago teams as a longtime native of the city, he is also a sports fan generally and appreciates many teams and athletes outside of his favorite teams as well.
The former president rarely misses an opportunity to congratulate a championship team on a job well done, and he did not let that moment pass by on Monday night either as he offered his congratulations to the Celtics for their historic victory.
