There aren’t many worse ways to lose a game than what the Delmarva Shorebirds experienced Sunday night.
The Orioles’ Single-A affiliate trailed the Augusta GreenJackets (Giants affiliate) by one run with a man on in the top of the ninth. Elier Leyva hit what appeared to be a two-run shot to give Delmarva the lead, but there was one problem. He never touched home plate. D’oh!

As a result, the game ended up being decided in extra innings where the GreenJackets won with a walkoff single in the tenth. Leyva undoubtedly will look directly at the plate and step in the very middle of it every time he homers from now on.
