Quite possibly one of the most intriguing baseball cards of recent memory could be coming to a foil pack near you. And it won’t even be featuring a baseball player, or at least an athlete who collects his checks playing professional baseball. Topps announced today that Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks Texas Rangers will be getting his own card, and should look something similar to the 2010 card Topps made for the little known second baseman.
Wilson was selected in the Rule 5 draft by the Texas Rangers back at the December Winter Meetings. Not known to be the greatest professional baseball player, Wilson hit .229 with 19 stolen bases and 118 strikeouts in his limited minor league career. But his rise to Super Bowl-starting quarterback no doubt had an effect on this decision. Adding to the intrigue and potentially high asking price for the card, Topps has announced that it will be a limited edition trading card. This is no T206 Honus Wagner by any means, but it’s still pretty interesting.
