This is a pretty awesome moment that came before last night’s Royals game in Kansas City, where a military father surprised his son by dressing up as a Royals player to catch his first pitch.
Major Robert Sides had been serving with the Air Force in Iraq since last June and his son, 11-year old Austin, was selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Tuesday’s Royals-Dodgers game. While ordinarily that’d be a pretty special moment for a youngster, it became a lot more special when dad lifted the catcher’s mask to reveal his identity.
It’s always awesome to see stuff like this because you know that kid is going to remember the moment for the rest of his life.
