Jonathan Papelbon is no stranger to booing Phillies fans, but this is probably the first time they’ve ever caused him to get ejected from a game. After surrendering four runs and the lead in the ninth inning Sundays game against the Marlins in Philadelphia, the Phillies reliever was tossed after grabbing his crotch on the way back to the dugout in response to booing hometown fans.
Umpire Joe West apparently saw the gesture and decided to send Pap to the showers early, a decision that didn’t exactly sit well with Papelbon.
Update: Papelbon has been suspended seven games and fined by the MLB.
#Phillies Jonathan Papelbon suspended 7 games & fined for actions during Sunday's game. Will begin serving suspension tonight.
