Doh!
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Matt Joyce apparently didn’t pay much attention to the team’s schedule, as it slipped his mind that Monday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays had a 1:07 p.m. start.
Joyce was late to the ballpark and subsequently scratched from the lineup, and Tuesday he told Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register that he only had himself to blame.
“It was a mistake,” Joyce said. “It’s definitely something that will never happen again. Obviously I felt terrible about it.”
Joyce also was fined an undisclosed amount for the blunder. Even after this incident, his main concern at the moment probably is his less-than-stellar .148 batting average.
