The Red Sox had no intentions of paying Ellsbury anywhere close to that huge raise, so Ellsbury wisely accepted the deal which offers an 8th year option which could push the total value to $169 million, the 9th largest contract in MLB history. So how did some Red Sox fans respond to their beloved outfielder who helped them win two World Series Championships after he received a gigantic contract from the Evil Empire?
