David State, who was lucky enough to be a 2012 Olympic torchbearer, got down on one knee during his leg of the London 2012 Olympics torch relay, not out of fatigue but to propose to his pregnant girlfriend Christine Langham. State proposed to his longtime girlfriend Christine Langham in the middle of his relay Monday between the towns of Marske-by-the-Sea and Loftus in north east England. In order to perform his duty, he had to hand the torch to a nearby security official while he proposed.
Langham told the BBC:
“I saw him running up the hill and I was pretty proud at that. I was trying not to cry. And then he gave his torch to somebody and gave me a cuddle, which was nice, and then he got down on one knee and I nearly passed out. Nearly had my baby there and then.”
