I don’t understand why racing enthusiasts would want to go to a race that has super light cars that are throttling at 230 MPH around a round track that gravity pushes them towards the stands and the only thing that separates these rockets on wheels from flying into your lap is a chain-link fence. Well spectators got a firsthand account of this terrifying sport at the Grand Prix of Houston. Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti’s lost control of his car and it rocketed into the stands injuring at least 13 IndyCar fans.
On Turn 5 Franchitti and Takuma Sato collided launching Franchitti’s car into the fence and shooting debris into the crowd. Franchitti was taken to the hospital where it was revealed that he fractured two vertebrae, broke his right ankle and suffered from a concussion, was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
