A judge has sentenced a former high-ranking official with the Environmental Protection Agency to 32 months in prison for stealing from the agency by failing to show up for work — while falsely claiming to be working for the CIA.
U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Huvelle sentenced John C. Beale, 65, following his guilty plea in September to stealing nearly $900,000 from the EPA in no-shows and filing bogus expenses.
This has got to be one of the most absurd stories of the year, no question. This Beale guy has some absolutely gigantic balls and – judging from the fact that he has been living in the house of the man he duped – is a master of persuasion.
It’s pretty absurd that Beale was able to get away with it for as long as he did; If I were the judge in this case I’m fairly certain this would be my verdict:
