The Australian National Rugby team is partnering with Samsung on a potentially revolutionary product for fan engagement at live sporting events.
The moving spectator seats will be taken for a trial run by four Wallabies fans at Sydney’s Stadium Australia during the opening match of the Rugby Championship on August 16th against New Zealand.
The fans will be cruising along the rails at speeds up to 12 mph on the Slideliner bank of seats, allowing for a direct sight line to the game action. Arno Lenior of Samsung Australia gave the following brief statement of the seats’ advantages (via BBC Sport):
If the Wallabies are getting close to the All Blacks’ try line, you’ll be right there in the action and at kick-off you’ll be back at halfway.
The four seats are controlled by an operator with a joystick and feature built-in cooling devices along with a tablet, allowing each fan to take photos from the one-of-a-kind view. It is unclear if Samsung plans to develop these seats for other sports but one can imagine it’s popularity at an NFL game.
