Golf legend Tiger Woods has been hampered by injuries lately and has undergone several surgeries throughout his golf career. And it sounds like those injuries will be keeping him out of yet another upcoming tournament.
This week, Tiger Woods announced that he will not be taking part in next month’s Hero World Challenge as he continues to recover from his latest back surgery.
Woods typically hosts the event in the Bahamas, but he will not be participating this year.
“I’m disappointed I will not be able to compete at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week @HeroMotorCorp,” Woods said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Woods announced back in September that he underwent back surgery to “alleviate the back spasm and pain” that he dealt with throughout the 2024 season. However, he did indicate that he planned to return to the sport, saying “I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”
However, it’s clear that he’s still not ready to return, leading to a lot of reactions from fans as a result of his brutal announcement.
“Hoping to see you at the Masters Tiger! Get well soon,” one fan wrote in a post on X.
“Feels like the end. Thanks for everything Tiger. 2019 was all we ever needed,” another fan wrote.
“If he has to miss the Hero to win the Masters, I’ll allow it,” someone else wrote.
“Shame, but maybe no huge surprise at the same time,” another X user added.
“Golf still needs ya!” someone else added.
“It’s been a while since tiger was able to compete,” another fan wrote.
At the end of 2023, Woods said he hoped to play at least one event per month this year, but that hasn’t happened. In fact, it has been a rather disappointing year for him after he pulled out of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, finished in dead last after making the cut at The Masters, and missed the cut at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship.
It’s obviously not a huge surprise that he still is not able to play, but it’s still disappointing nonetheless.
