Tiger Woods is without a doubt one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport. And that passion for the sport has seemingly carried over to his son, Charlie Woods, who is seemingly pursuing a career in golf as well. But not everyone in the Woods family is in love with the game.
Woods recently made an appearance on the Today Show with Carson Daly to discuss his lengthy golf career. And he admitted that his 16-year-old daughter, Sam Woods has a less than enthusiastic relationship with the sport in comparison to her brother.
“She has a negative connotation to the game,” said Woods of his daughter. At that time when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her. I had to pack and leave and I was gone for weeks. There is a negative connotation to it. We develop our own relationship, our own rapport outside of golf. We do things that don’t involve golf. While my son and I do everything golf-related. It’s very different.”
It’s fairly understandable for Sam Woods to feel this way. It’s hard for any child to have their father have to leave home as a professional athlete. And there can certainly be some resentment there towards the sport that caused her father to have to spend time away from her as a child.
Even though Sam clearly isn’t the biggest fan of the sport, she does very much support her father in his career. She notably caddied for him and Charlie at the PNC Championship last December.
Still, It’s safe to say that we won’t have a third Woods in professional golf. But there is still hope for Charlie Woods as he progresses through his amateur career.
