Amir Johnson of the Toronto Raptors was ejected during the third quarter of Monday nights game against the Portland Trail Blazers for an extremely bizarre set of actions. Amir was going to grab the ball following the first of J.J. Hickson’s free throws and David Jones, the veteran referee, grabbed the ball at the exact same time. Amir, for some odd reason, would not let the ball go and started wrestling for the ball with the ref. It didn’t take long for the ref to blow his whistle and eject Amir for this odd behavior. For good measure Amir ripped the mouth guard out of his mouth on his way off the court and threw it at the David Jones who had just ejected him. For what it is worth, the mouth guard was thrown well and hit David right in the back.
Following the game, Amir shed a little light on his tussle with David Jones:
“I think it was just real childish, it was something that didn’t need to happen. I lost my cool. I apologize on that part. I’ve never been kicked out of a game before or been teed up like that. He (David Jones) turned his back, I really wanted to know what happened. Nothing was said. I lost my cool right there. I never had any problems all the eight years I’ve been in the league. I never argued with a ref or did anything wrong. From there, I just lost my cool.”
