When the Irish made their way into Los Angeles for their matchup with the Trojans on Saturday, you knew the Irish faithful would travel well to see their team have a shot at making it to Miami to play in the title game. What you maybe didn’t know, is they also stayed home in amazing fashion in front of their TV’s. The game which showed off the lack of coaching skills by Lane Kiffin, and sent the Irish to Miami pulled in easily the highest ratings for a college football game this season.
According to Sports Media Watch::
The latest edition of “Saturday Night Football,” pitting #1 Notre Dame against unranked Southern Cal, earned a 10.3 overnight rating on ABC — up 151% from Notre Dame/Stanford last year (4.1), and up 98% from regional action featuring Oklahoma/Oklahoma State in 2010 (5.2).
The 10.3 overnight is easily the highest of the season for college football on any network, sailing past the previous high of 7.0 for Alabama/Louisiana State on CBS two weeks earlier.
Overall, the 10.3 is the highest for a regular season college football game since Louisiana State/Alabama in November 2011 (11.9), the best for a game on ESPN/ABC since Michigan/Ohio State in November 2006 (13.7), and the best ever for ABC’s “Saturday Night Football” (84 telecasts dating back to 2006).
The previous high for a “Saturday Night Football” game was a 9.6 overnight for Notre Dame/Southern Cal in 2006.
You can bet your bottom dollar that the numbers for the BCS championship which will most likely feature ND and Alabama/Georgia will be through the roof.
