8-year-old Atticus Lane-Dupre loves soccer and is a huge Portland Timbers fan, but on Wednesday he was rooting against his favorite team. That’s because the young boy and his youth soccer team, the “Green Machine” were playing against the Timbers for a special cause. Atticus was diagnosed with cancer in this past fall and missed his team’s final game last season to get cancer treatment, but he was back on the field on Wednesday. The Make-A-Wish organization asked young Atticus what he would want or where he would want to go, and the soccer-loving boy asked to play against the Timbers of the MLS.

The Timbers organized an amazing exhibition game between The Green Machine and some Timbers players. And before the Green Machine could score their first goal, the youngsters were playing in front of a crowd of 3,000 at JELD-WEN Field in Portland. Atticus scored four goals on his special day and led the Green Machine with a 10-9 over the Timbers. What an outstanding game by Atticus and an extraordinary gesture by the Timbers.
