Cédrick Desjardins just signed a two year deal with the New York Rangers organization and it appears that the 29-year old goaltender is determined to win the affection of his new team’s fanbase. Desjardin will likely begin the season with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting two of New York City’s most beloved icons on his new goalie mask.

Desjardins’ new lid features a few portraits of former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter on one side, and a couple of Frank Sinatra on the other. In between them is the Rangers logo (featured on the helmet’s crown), his nickname (“Ceddy”) on the chin, between the Wolfpack logo on either jawline.

Desjardins is Canadian, so I’m not sure if there’s any personal connection to either Big Apple icon featured on the new headpiece or if he just wants to endear himself to hometown fans. Maybe he was just struggling to come up with ideas and the commercial below came on TV?

Either way, I’m sure New Yorkers are going to love it.
