President Obama took some time to visit Newtown on Sunday just days after the senseless school shooting which took the lives of twenty six innocent people. During the visit a great deal of the time was spent at Newtown High School (where he gave this Vigil Speech) in different staging areas. President Obama found himself in one staging area which was where a Newtown High School teacher and the school’s head football coach left a note to the President on a whiteboard. The President saw the note and responded, much to the surprise of the coach.

The exchange was simple, yet one which will be remembered for quite some time and hopefully bring a little start of healing to some of those in Newtown.

“Dear President Obama,
The Newtown community is so thankful that you are coming to help us heal. In times of adversity it is reassuring to know that we have a strong leader to help us recover.”
– Steve George, Teacher/Football Coach
– Bobby Pattison, Teacher

The President responded:

“You’re in our thoughts and prayers.”
Barack Obama
