You probably haven’t heard of the dude, but Dr. Luke (AKA Lukasz Gottwald) has been the genius behind pretty much every girl-pop track you’ve heard over the last few years. After attending Manhattan School of Music and spending a decade as the lead guitarist at Saturday Night Live (97-07), he began producing a bevy of songs that have been filling the atmosphere around everywhere from freshman keg stands to the Wal-Mart greeting area. To name just a few, Dr. Luke’s discography includes hits by the likes of Britney Spears, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Ciara and Avril Lavigne. Seriously, there hasn’t been a pregame in the last five years without this dude in the background. He’s singlehandedly defined the genre of sugar-coated pop and stuffed his pockets with loot from the ringtone sales alone.
Two of his latest pop titans are Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok,” which is pretty sick considering they were two of the biggest hits over the past year. Also, I’ve defended Katy Perry’s joint as a solid pop track, although I firmly believe Ke$ha should be thrown off a tall bridge. Then I saw this video, and I’ve become uncertain about anything I’ve ever known.
Yeah. They’re the same song. By the same dude. What a beast.
