Kurt Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, Washington has always been very proud of the rockstar that once lived there, the Aberdeen welcome sign even reads “Come As You Are.” As cool as that is, their appreciation of Cobain is about to get even cooler. Aberdeen town mayor, Bill Simpson, has declared Cobain’s birthday of February 20th as the annual “Kurt Cobain Day.”
Simpson recently told local radio station KXRO Newsradio, “Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievements.” He later went on to suggest that the week prior to “Kurt Cobain Day” could become “Kurt Cobain Week,” once the official proclamation is read on February 12th.
On April 10th, Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens, and Linda Rondstadt. That same day is also being honored in Kurt’s memory by the Washington town of Hoquiam, where Kurt once lived.
