Highly touted quarterback prospect Arch Manning was the top freshman prospect in the country when he signed with the Texas Longhorns before the start of last season. Even though he barely played last season and will be just the backup this season behind starter Quinn Ewers, Ewers seems to think Texas is still the best place for him.
During a recent appearance on RG3 and The Ones with Robert Griffin III, Quinn Ewers made it clear that he thinks it’s good for Arch Manning to have a chance to “sit back and watch,” especially considering he is a player who did not grow up in Texas.
“Not being from the state and coming in, it’s obviously a little different,” Ewers said according to On3. “I think he’s got more time to grow his pride and love for the university … Being able to sit back and watch, it’s different than playing. So him seeing kinda what’s going on from inside but also outside, he can gain a lot of intel from that.”
Of course, that also gives Manning a chance to continue learning the offense before he is tasked with leading the team.
“And then, obviously, another year to learn the offense and just get more comfortable within the smaller details,” Manning said. “It’s like the best situation for him, I think.”
Manning’s time will come. But for now, he’ll be learning behind Ewers for another season.
