When five-star quarterback Air Noland initially signed with the Ohio State Buckeyes back in December, he thought he would be the only five-star quarterback in his freshman recruiting class to sign with Ohio State. That changed when the Buckeyes also added five-star freshman Julian Sayin, who transferred from Alabama after Nick Saban’s retirement. But it sounds like Noland is ready to compete.
During a recent interview, Air Noland revealed that he and Julian Sayin became friends at the Elite 11 quarterback camp during the summer, and he’s excited to now compete with him as teammates at Ohio State.
“We were buddies at Elite 11, where he came out and won it. But now we’ll get to put on the pads and whatnot. We’re gonna see each other the same way we saw each other at the Elite 11, but now we are teammates,” Noland said. “We’ll have to compete. We will be teammates who will push each other every day. We will battle, and we will have competitive excellence toward each other. That’s what being the best of buddies and true teammates means.”
Kansas State Wildcats transfer quarterback Will Howard is expected to be the starter for the Buckeyes this season, but Sayin and Noland will likely compete for the starting job in 2025. And it sounds like Noland is excited about it.
“Iron sharpens iron,” Noland said of the competition.
