Legendary coach Nick Saban may not be leading the Alabama Crimson any longer, but he is still following the team quite closely as they prepare for the upcoming college football season, and it sounds like he has one concern about the Crimson Tide as they head into their first season without him.
Nick Saban is now an analyst on ESPN’s College GameDay, and he gave a pretty honest assessment of the team this week as he revealed that he has been “worried” about the team’s defense this upcoming season.
“He’s had to replace some players because so many guys transferred,” Saban said. “But I really think Alabama with Jalen Milroe, the two running backs that they have. I was worried about the defense. But I think the defense really impressed me in the scrimmage, that they have come along.
“So if they can play the kind of defense – especially in the secondary because they lost so many players in the secondary – they’re gonna be right up there challenging people.”
Obviously, Saban is now sounding a bit more optimistic about the defensive side of the ball, but those slight concerns are clearly still there.
We’ll have to see how Alabama performs this season.
