Deion Sanders Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Deion Sanders brought a lot of attention to the Colorado Buffaloes football program when he decided to become the team’s head coach, and that led to a lot of attention from high-level high school football recruits across the country, as well. But unfortunately, it looks one of Sanders’ high-level targets will be going elsewhere.

Four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr. committed to the Colorado Buffaloes almost immediately after Deion Sanders became the new head coach at Colorado, but it sounds like he’s not going to be joining Sanders’ squad after all.

“BREAKING: Four-Star WR Winston Watkins Jr. (2025) tells me he has Decommitted from Colorado. The 5’11 185 WR from Fort Myers, FL Committed to the Buffaloes a day after coach Deion was announced Head Coach. Holds a Total of 22 Offers,” Fawcett said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

It’s pretty brutal for Sanders and Colorado as the team is losing one of its top high school prospects, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.

We’ll have to see where Watkins ultimately decides to commit and whether or not Sanders and Colorado can find someone else to replace him in the class.
