Throughout her time in college basketball, Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark has brought a lot of attention to the sport of women’s college basketball, leading to some absolutely massive ratings all season. And in the final game of her career on Sunday, she helped deliver some absolutely historic ratings.
Sunday’s NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament national title game saw an average viewership of 18.7 million viewers for the game, peaking at 24 million on ABC and ESPN.
For context, the game outdrew all of the following, according to Joe Lucia of Awful Announcing:
- Every men’s college basketball game since the 2019 National Championship between Virginia and Texas Tech
- Every NBA game since the 2017 NBA Finals
- Every MLB game since the 2019 World Series
- Every NHL game ever (American audiences only)
Needless to say, the game drew an absolutely massive audience, and Caitlin Clark was quite happy about it.

“18.7 MILLION” Clark said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter, adding a fire emoji for effect.
Clark will now head to the WNBA where she is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft. We’ll have to see if she can bring the same attention to that league, as well.
