The New England Patriots have been widely expected to select a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick given the team’s struggles at the position in recent years between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe, but in a shocking twist, it doesn’t sound like the Patriots are committing to selecting a quarterback with the pick.
During a recent press conference, New England Patriots director of scouting and de facto general manager Eliot Wolf was asked whether or not the team is set on selecting a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming draft and he had a pretty surprising and firm answer: “no.”
“We’re open to anything. Moving up, moving down. We’re open for business in the first round and every round,” Wolf said according to Pro Football Talk.
Wolf went on to say that while there have been trade conversations with other teams, no team has made them an exceptionally great offer for the No. 3 overall pick yet, either. Obviously, that could change as there are clearly some teams who have expressed interest in potentially trading up in the draft to select a quarterback.
If the Patriots truly aren’t set on selecting a quarterback in the draft and would be willing to trade down, the draft could get very interesting.
