Rummaging earlier this week appears to have paid off. On Friday, the University of Alabama Board of Trustees voted to honor legendary football coach Nick Saban.
Alabama’s football stadium will now be named “Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium,” immortalizing the six-time National Champion head coach in Tuscaloosa.
The program made the announcement, with the reported date of September 7th officially announced as the day when the ceremony will be held.

It’s no surprise that Alabama elected to honor Saban. The legendary head coach made a massive impact on the football program, Alabama athletics, the entire university, and probably the entire state, too—and all of college football. It’s probably no secret why there hasn’t been a National Champion west of the Mississippi River since 2005. Saban‘s move to the Crimson Tide shifted college football forever.
Now, his impact will be felt forever at the university. Some argued that he could receive even higher honors, like having the actual stadium named after him or even a road on campus. The good thing about honoring someone, though, is that you never really have to stop.
September 7th should be a day to remember in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
