Marc Gasol may need some clarification regarding the recent award he just won. For the second consecutive year, the Defensive Player of the Year did not make the NBA All-Defensive First Team. Okay…now, go back and read that again.
In a league where the postseason is seemingly just as long as the regular season, the NBA announced their All-Defensive Teams today. The first-teamers included some recent usual suspects: LeBron James, Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler, and Tony Allen, who were teamed with Serge Ibaka and Joakim Noah. Wait…What? Six players made the All-Defensive First Team, yet none of which were Defensive Player of the Year, Marc Gasol. Gasol, who somehow made the Second Team, received the FOURTEENTH highest amount of votes for the All-Defensive Teams, which are voted on by coaches. The coaches apparently do not like Gasol, as he totaled less points than three guys that didn’t make either team. Pass the crazy pills because this makes zero sense. The next thing you know someone is going to tell me that there’s a game called Bulletball.
So, the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, which is voted on by sportswriters and broadcasters, found himself on the All-Defensive Second Team for the second year in a row? Well, you know, for the NBA, that does kind of makes sense…right?
